Little Cado Avocado Tree

The Little Cado Avocado (Persea americana 'Little Cado'), also known as Wurtz or Wertz, is the only true dwarf avocado variety, making it ideal for compact gardens, patios, and container growth. It reaches a manageable size of 10-15 feet in height and width but can be pruned to stay smaller. Known for its productivity, this self-pollinating tree produces a bountiful crop of medium-sized avocados (8-14 ounces) with smooth green skin and a rich, creamy texture. The fruit typically ripens from late spring through early fall.

Best suited for California’s mild climates (USDA zones 9-11), the Little Cado thrives in full sun and well-drained soil, needing 6-8 hours of direct sunlight daily. Once established, it is drought-tolerant but benefits from deep watering during dry periods. It can tolerate temperatures down to 32°F, though frost protection is recommended for optimal fruit production and tree health.
